Core facilities at Brown provide access to cutting-edge instrumentation, current technologies, and expert consultation to support research and discovery.
The COBRE CCRD core facility provides state-of-the-art instrumentation, support, and technical training for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and faculty at the Warren Alpert Medical School and its affiliated hospitals. Services include automated immunohistochemical staining, tissue microarray production, laser capture microdissection, quantitative real-time PCR, and data and image analysis.
The Molecular Pathology Facility provides all-inclusive histology and histopathology services, equipment, and training. The core houses an automated tissue processor, a paraffin embedding center, automated microtomes, a cryostat, a vibratome, and a multiheaded light microscope.
The Lifespan Clinical Research Center (CRC) provides sample processing and shipping to support a broad range of clinical trials. The center supports clinical investigators in conducting research on experimental, promising therapies and device development across medical specialties.
A unit with the Division of Perinatal Pathology at Women and Infants Hospital, the Maternal and Perinatal Tissue Bank offers maternal and fetal serum samples, cytogenic analyses, placental samples, and perinatal autopsies for clinical and translational research.
The Tissue Resource Center at Brown performs neuropathologic examinations on all brain and tissue donations from Alpert Medical School's affiliated hospitals and distributes these tissues to investigators engaged in research.
