Dr. Geralyn Messerlian has been appointed to the CAP/ACMG Biochemical and Molecular Genetics Committee. This appointment is effective on 1/1/25.
CAP/ACMG Biochemical and Molecular Genetics Committe has three main working subgroups: the molecular genetics subgroup, the biochemical genetics subgroup, and the maternal screening subgroup. In addition, they have a pharmacogenetics project team, which is joint with members from toxicology and coagulation. The committee oversees and manages multiple proficiency testing programs for heritable conditions and are involved in writing clinical scenarios and ensuring the PT challenges are clinically impactful and helpful to laboratories, developing new PT programs, and grading results. In addition, they help with participant inquiries and writing educational discussions. Outside of PT, they are often called upon by CAP leadership to provide expertise on a variety of topics. The committee also initiates projects that can lead to publications.
