On September 12, 2026, 112 experts and colleagues from around the world gathered at the Grand Hôtel Stockholm for the International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) Multidisciplinary Expert Consultation Conference on Precision Biomarker Testing in Genitourinary Malignancies.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Liang Cheng, Professor of Pathology and Surgery (Urology) at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, together with Dr. Geert J.L.H. van Leenders. The conference brought together an international multidisciplinary group of leaders in pathology, urology, oncology, molecular diagnostics, and translational research to address the rapidly evolving role of biomarkers in genitourinary cancer.

Working groups focused on precision biomarker testing in bladder and prostate cancer, with discussions encompassing standardized testing and reporting, specimen selection, preanalytic considerations, liquid biopsy, emerging predictive biomarkers, digital pathology, and artificial intelligence.

The meeting highlighted a transformative era in pathology, as cancer diagnosis, classification, prognostication, treatment selection, and disease monitoring become increasingly biomarker-driven. Importantly, the Stockholm conference represents the beginning of an ongoing international consensus process, with continued collaboration aimed at developing evidence-based recommendations, defining research priorities, and ultimately advancing precision cancer care worldwide.
